Happiness is the home you build

happiness is the home you build

They say you can’t buy happiness. But I believe choosing to build a home can bring you pretty close.

The happiest of families are not the ones who have the best of everything; they are the ones who make the best of everything they have. Build in Oz draws on this philosophy by showing you how building helps you live the very best lifestyle that your budget, environment and personal circumstances will allow.

What is Your Version of Happiness?

We all dream about living the good life. In the perfect home. But what does that really mean to you? If you could build your dream home, and money was no object, what would that perfect home look like? Would it be bigger? Have more bedrooms? A huge backyard for the kids? Is location important? Do you need room to grow your family? Space to entertain? Or do you simply dream of a clutter-free life in a modern, low-maintenance space?

Choosing to build means ticking as many of the boxes to having the perfect home as your budget can afford. In 2016, we conducted a simple survey asking regional families what would make a perfect home for them and what effect that would have on their life. Everyone answered the same two questions, filling in the blanks in these two sentences:

If I could have the perfect home today, it would have _____________________.

If I had these things, my life would be _____________________.

The overwhelming majority of families wanted more space. That can present itself in various ways, from an extra bedroom or two, an ensuite, a study, a garage with room for more than one car and a workshop, or just a larger backyard for the kids to play in or to entertain friends and extended family. Others wanted to have a choice of neighbourhood; a few even had a specific street in mind.

Many families dream of peace and serenity, friendly neighbours and views worth watching. Their perfect home is a place where they would feel safe and secure, and be somewhere to relax and unwind from the stresses of daily life. Another dream was affordability, not only in the cost of the home itself, but a more energy-efficient home that used the latest technology.

But one thing is certain – everybody agreed that if they had these things, their lives would be blissful, awesome, more comfortable, healthier, less stressful, more satisfying. For many of them, the word was ‘complete’.
